Want to LIVE WORK PLAY in your City ?
! Help save affordable work space in our inner city !
In Toronto areas designated as “Employment Lands” are where all kinds of industries make things – from light industrial, to artists and artisans, to woodworkers, to jewelry makers, to software developers, to animation studios – and provide a lot of jobs.
440 Dufferin, affectionately known as the Wood Studio, just north of Queen has been the home to dozens of small businesses, but it’s about to be demolished to build 3 condo towers, with only 2 floors of workspace in 1 building.
We need to BALANCE affordable WORKSPACES and CONDO development. We need to keep the workspaces we already have, if not add to them. Let’s keep up with the residential development that’s been added in the last 10 years. We like our new neighbours and don’t want them have leave the city to make a living!
This site is one of 146 other Employment Area sites that will be going to the OMB to ask to be converted out of employment and into other uses, mostly residential. This project has ripple effects over the ENTIRE CITY – it is not just a WARD 18 issue.
Ward 18 Councillor Ana Bailão is holding a community meeting on June 04 to hear what citizens of Toronto think about protecting LIVE+WORK+PLAY sites in our ward. This particular case goes to the OMB on JUNE 15 2015.
Active18 Community Association has long fought to maintain workspaces for small local and independent businesses. We need to protect vibrant active WORK SPACES in this neighbourhood, ward and city.
The Bottom line:
WE NEED WORKSPACES NOT JUST CONDOS.
THE NEIGHBOURHOOD NEEDS AFFORDABLE WORKSPACE NOT MORE CONDOS.
